World Cup an opportunity for students to introduce others to Qatari culture: Ministry of Education

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s (MoEHE) “Student World Cup 2022” activities concluded on Tuesday with the “Be the 12th player” event at Al Yarmouk Preparatory School for Boys.

The event included an art exhibition inaugurated by the Undersecretary at MoEHE, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, which featured drawings, paintings, and models for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 done by school students. There was also a sports festival which involved 32 school teams and partners.

Dr. Al-Naimi expressed his happiness with the artistic and sports designs at the exhibition.

“The works on display confirm the students’ awareness of the importance of the World Cup in Qatar as an opportunity to introduce others to the culture, customs, and traditions of Qatar,” he said.

He noted that the coordination between the ministry and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, in terms of student participation in organizing some events,  will cement this global and historic sporting event in the minds of the students.

He thanked school principals and teachers for their efforts to spread a culture of support and encouragement for the Qatar national team at the World Cup.

Captain Saeed Jumaa Al-Hitmi, General Supervisor of the “You Are Important” initiative at the Ministry of Interior, said that the ministry, through the initiative, is working to educate students about the importance of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

He noted that the students’ participation in the tournament is an appropriate opportunity to teach them tolerance in order to convey a civilized message about the Qatari community to visitors to the World Cup, as well as their role in proper evacuation methods and exiting sports facilities in a safe manner.

Meanwhile, Qatari football star and former captain of the national team, Adel Malallah, who participated in the sports event, stressed that Qatar’s stadiums are ready for the start of the tournament.

He added that attention to students and their awareness and education of the World Cup activities is necessary, because it is one of the most important elements in encouraging the Qatari national team and because the tournament will remain in their memory for many years.
